Vancouver researchers use A.I. to preserve emotional impact of blurred faces in news footage

A team of Vancouver researchers is exploring the use of artificial intelligence to obscure the identity of journalistic sources in news broadcasts and virtual reality reporting.

Taylor Owen, assistant professor of digital media and global affairs with the University of British Columbia’s School of Journalism, points out that for cultural, political or safety reasons, journalists sometimes need to make their sources anonymous.
